Rookie Challenge time

7:02: Just a few minutes from tip-off, should be fun...

7:03: Chris Bosh coaching the sophomores, Kevin Durant for the rooks.

7:05: Rookies: Gibson, Jerebko, Curry, Jennings, Flynn, Harden, Evans, Casspi, Blair

Sophs roll out with Morrow, Gordon, Mayo, Gasol, Beasley, Love, Lopez, Gallinari, Westbrook

7:07: How about the size differential? Sophomores have two 7-footers in Gasol and Lopez, plus Beasley and Love. By my count, Taj Gibson is the only rookie taller than 6'8"

7:10: Love Craig Sager's suit, pink and plaid everything, does he know Valentine's day isn't till Sunday?

7:11: Keep an eye on Anthony Morrow, the league's best shooter through the last two years isn't in the 3-point comp. Says he will make one left-handed tonight.

Tip off: starters for rooks - Evans, Jennings, Blair Curry and Casspi
and for the sophomores - Westbrook, Mayo, Lopez, Love, Gallinari FYI: two 20-minute halfs for the game...

7:16: It will be an absolute miracle if the Rookies can get 10 rebounds

7:19: 5 minutes in an a few nice dunks from Beasley, game tied up 17-17. Sophs have 5 offensive rebounds already. Dwight Howard holding his own on the microphone with Kevin Harlan

7:25: FYI, the refs have no intention of calling traveling

7:27: Every big man is shooting jumpers, all the little guys going to the rim

7:29: No shortage of teammates in this game, Harden and Westbrook, Curry and Morrow, Evans and Casspi, Gasol and Mayo, Flynn and Love

7:35: Howard, McHale and Harlan are on a mission to give every player a nickname and call him by that for the rest of the game - for those of you just turning your TVs on, Baby Jesus is Marc Gasol, Gumby is Brandon Jennings, and Be Consistent is Mike Beasley

7:38: Under eight minutes to play, Rookies up 42-37. Sophomores actually trying to operate an offensive game in the post that somehow isn't working

7:46: DeJuan Blair goes full court, off glass to himself for a dunk, 2 points and 0 ACLs

Halftime: Rookies end half on 16-4 run, head into the break up 67-55. Could they snap the 7-year losing streak? Eric Gordon and DeMar DeRozan about to faceoff in a "dunk-in," we will have all the details...

"Dunk-in" details-

7:57: I just ate a rediculous amount of pizza and the thought of jumping four feet into the air makes me cry a little

7:58: Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith in to comment on the dunks. Charles has been on air for 30 seconds and already made an ass of himself.

7:59: We have just been informed that Eric Gordon has seven dunks on the year. Seven... In 50 games this season.

8:00: DeRozan up first - between the legs and flush with the left hand, first try, looking way too easy

8:01: Now Gordon - having some trouble getting the ball off the glass, 7 tries and counting. Finally gets himself a solid windmill. Good news Clipper fans, Barkley just said they are the team of the future

8:03: DeRozan goes with a windmill from 10 feet out. This is over, Dwight Howard already begging fans to vote for DeMar

8:05: Gordon gets a nice feed from Mayo and reverses it. Good effort and a nice show for the Rook-Soph halftime. We'll keep you updated on who wins. Second half starts in a few

Second half:

8:09:
DeRozan deservingly wins the dunk comp., will compete tomorrow in the real deal. Gordon had a good show, but for the once the fans made the right choice

8:14: Heading into the second half, Evans leads all scorers with 14.

8:17: Hows this: combined the Rooks and Sophs are 2 for 25 from three...

8:18: Nate Robinson now on the mic, and pointing out every call the refs miss. C'mon Nate

8:20: Do Steph Curry and his dad get tired of only be known as great shooters?

8:21: Right on cue, Curry drops a deep transition 3.

8:22: Five minutes into the second half, rookies up 83-69

8:30: DeJuan Blair took a shot in the eye and received some stitches - he's back no so nothing too severe.

8:33: Kevin Love just threw an 85-foot inbounds to Russell Westbrook for the easy layup, sophs still down, 94-84

8:36: This just in, TheAssociationNation.com fantasy correspondent Bryan Price has suffered a sprained ankle in his pickup game tonight but is epected to return

8:39: The Sophomores have been unable to break the double-digit deficit, down 103-88

8:40: Bosh takes his 7-footers out, looking to run with Beasley and Love as the bigs

8:42: Jennings and Evans have combined for 41 points, all other rookie starters in double-figures. Beasley's 17 leads the sophomores

8:49: Westbrook's back to back 3's bring the sophomores within 8. Then Evans take it the other way for an and-1 finish

8:50: Somehow, some way, the rookies are grabbing every rebound

8:52: I just got it, the guard-heavy rookies are pushing the tempo so quickly that Lopez, Gasol and Love haven't even made it to the paint to grab the boards

8:53: Morrow has nine points, all within 10 feet of the basket. three minutes left, rookies still up on sophomores, 127-115

8:54: rookies going for the jugular, Curry hits another three

8:57: Sophomores might be out of gas - rookies just completed a 5-on-1 fastbreak to get them over the 130-point mark

9:00: Westbrook very quietly has a bunch of points, Harlan just said he might break Durant's record

9:01: Blair just pulled down his 20th rebound - so much for the disadvantage on the glass. And the dunk with 3 seconds left gives him 20 points and 21 boards for the night. And another offensive rebound off the missed free throw...

9:02: Final: 140-128, Rookies break their seven-year losing streak

9:02: In 40 minutes the teams combined for 268 points - an unprecedented 6 points per minute

9:05: MVP of the game goes to Tyreke Evans (40 points) but DeJuan Blair deserved a piece with 22 points and 23 rebounds. Evans just proclaimed they are officially splitting it, very classy. Westbrook ended up with 40 points for the sophomores

Check back with us tomorrow for the dunk contest at 9:30 EST!
